The World Series of Poker is the most iconic series of poker tournaments which is traditionally held every year in Las Vegas. This year, the World Series of Poker Online took place and as expected, it offered plenty of poker events. A couple of days ago, the World Series of Poker Online Event #11 took place and it was a $500 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Deepstack event in six-handed play. This event gathered over one thousand players and six hundred and ten rebuys.

The event accumulated $760,000 and in the end, after seven hours, it was Raman “Acrogum” Afanasenka who was crowned the winner. It is worth mentioning that great Raman “Acrogum” Afanasenka became the very first person residing outside of the United States to claim an online World Series of Poker bracelet and this way his first gold bracelet so he has a lot of reasons to celebrate.

Raman “Acrogum” Afanasenka vs. Chance “BingShui” Kornuth

Once the World Series of Poker Online Event #11 came down to the two final players, it was Chance “BingShui” Kornuth against Raman “Acrogum” Afanasenka. Raman and Chance would eventually go head to head with the winner as the chip leader with forty-two million in chips against twenty-four million in chips that Chance had. On the final hand, Raman “Acrogum” Afanasenka had pocket 3s while the second-placed Chance had K-A.

The flop showed a six and a King, but it was the river’s third 3 which gave Raman “Acrogum” Afanasenka the hand and most importantly the ultimate win. Chance “BingShui” Kornuth was really hoping to win the event which would be his second World Series of Poker Online bracelet as he earned his very first bracelet two years ago in the WSOP Event #63 in a No-Limit Hold’em High Roller. In the end, it was Raman Afanasenka as first place with a prize of $128,601 followed by Chance Kornuth, Brett Apter, David Prociak, Neeraj Nayak and Erica Lindgren.

World Series of Poker Online Event #5 and Event #11

The World Series of Poker Online Event #5 saw great Allen “Acnyc718” Chang from New York winning his very first World Series of Poker bracelet. The event was a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout and it gathered eight hundred and fifty-four poker players who generated over $811,000. After eleven hours, Allen Chang was crowned the winner and he went home with $161,286 in his pockets.

Just like the vast majority of other World Series of Poker Online event, this one was rather tough with both professional and amateur players competing. The final table saw Philip ‘tomte’ Yeh and the winner Allen Chang facing each other in the exciting heads-up game with great Allen being the chip leader. Before the game ended, Phillip Yeh took over the chip lead, but it was Allen who won the game followed by Philip Yeh, Felipe Leme, Andrew Campbell, Tim Begley, Alex Condon, John Forlenza, Josh Greenberg and Quintin Trammell as ninth-placed.

The World Series of Poker Online Event #1 saw Jonathan Dokler winning and securing his very first WSOP gold bracelet in a $500 No-Limit Hold’em Kickoff which gathered almost one thousand and two hundred players with five hundred and twenty rebuys. While all eyes were on pro Phil Helmuth, he finished the event as eleventh-placed. Jonathan Dokler was followed by  Justin Turner, Tony Dunst, Shawn Daniels, Michael Balan, ChefShap, djp1006, Mark Liedtke, and Taylor Von Kriegenbergh as ninth-placed.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the vast majority of political, sports, religious, cultural, and other events had been postponed or canceled in order to combat the spread of the highly-contagious coronavirus strain. Needless to say, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has also put a massive halt to land-based casino activities as well as to many prominent live poker events. It is yet unclear whether cardrooms, casinos, and poker rooms will start operating at their full capacity.

During these difficult times of uncertainty, many poker tournament organizers including the biggest, most renowned World Series of Poker had to get more creative to offer exciting poker tournaments in different formats. Many organizers including the biggest World Series of Poker have decided to move some if not all of their live poker tournaments to the online realm.

Just several days ago, the World Series of Poker announced that its GCC or the Global Casino Championship will be held on the Internet. The same announcement by the World Series of Poker officials also revealed that early June will also see the launching of a new Series Finale Online Event.

World Series of Poker Going Strong Since 1970

As one of the most reputable poker tournament organizers globally, the World Series of Poker was founded in the state of Nevada, Las Vegas back in 1970 by Benny Binion. Since its inception, the World Series of Poker has been a series of exciting poker tournaments held every year in the gambling capital of Las Vegas. Since 2004, the events of the World Series of Poker are sponsored by the Caesars Entertainment Corporation.

When it comes to its origins, the very first event related to what we know today as the World Series of Poker was held back in 1970 when Mr. Binion invited seven poker players to Horseshoe Casino for one poker tournament. Over the years, the World Series of Poker included more and more events while as of 2020, the WSOP features one hundred and one poker events with the vast majority of poker variants covered including all sorts of Texas Hold’em.

The World Series of Poker events generally take place during one or several days mostly in June and July. However, the Main Events had been delayed to October in 2012 and 2016 due to the US presidential election and to November back in 2008. As of May 2017, the WSOP follows its original format which means that the Main Events are held in July.

The Global Casino Championship

When it comes to this year’s Global Casino Championship, it was originally scheduled to take place in August. As revealed before the latest update, the Global Casino Championship by the World Series of Poker was scheduled for three consecutive days in August with all events played at the iconic Harrah’s Cherokee Casino venue.

However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and related safety measures and precautions, the event’s organizer has decided to move the entire Global Casino Championship 2020 to the Internet to protect the event’s organizers, players and everyone else involved.

As revealed by the World Series of Poker officials, the Global Casino Championship will start on the 13th of September and players who have qualified to take part in the events will have to travel to Nevada and New Jersey to take part in the Global Casino Championship as these are the only US states that currently offer World Series of Poker gaming.

It was also revealed that players who have qualified also include winners of the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Events and winners of the Casino Championship. Moreover, winners who are in the top fifty-point earners of the leaderboard also qualify so the organizers will soon send invitations to these poker players for the upcoming Global Casino Championship.

When it comes to the World Series of Poker Season Finale Online Circuit, it will run from the 3rd of June until the 14th of June. The Season Finale Online Circuit will offer a total of thirteen sports for the Global Casino Championship. Players will compete in a series of events while the biggest is the Season Finale Online Finale Circuit High Roller 6-Max event with a massive $150,000 prize pool. The Main Event is more impressive with a guaranteed prize pool of $300,000.

The thriving, growing world of online poker platforms has lost one operator which has been a prominent name for almost two decades. The operator is 32Red by Kindred Group. This saddening news came several days ago when the Malta-based online sportsbook and casino operator Kindred Group has announced that its prominent 32Red brand is pulling out of online poker following the closure of its Red32Poker.com domain which was licensed by the jurisdiction of Gibraltar.

According to several reports by several different news outlets, the Valletta-based company sent an official e-mail to all of Red32Poker.com registered punters several days ago. In this e-mail, Kindred Group revealed to all players at the site that the domain will not be operational from the 19th of May due to the unfortunate shuttering of MPN or Microgaming Poker Network that 32RedPoker.com was part almost since its beginnings.

Kindred Group and 32Red Poker

Formerly known under its name of Unibet Group Plc, Kindred Group is doubtlessly one of the biggest names in the world of online sports betting and casino gaming. The company emerged on the iGaming stage in 1997 which was over twenty years ago. It was founded in Malta where the company is still based. Besides being operational in Malta, Kindred Group also operates across many other locations including the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, France, Australia, Gibraltar, Estonia, and many others.

The company features eleven different brands including iGame, 32Red, Maria Casino, and Unibet which is probably the most popular. Kindred Group offers a variety of online gaming and sports betting products including online poker, online casino, online sports betting, and online bingo games across different domains. Needless to say, all of these brands operate only across regulated, licensed markers including the Danish iGaming market and the Swedish iGaming market which have been thriving for years now.

When it comes to its 32Red brand, it was established in 2002 or eighteen years ago. Both 32Red Casino and 32Red Poker were licensed by the jurisdiction of Curacao. While the casino venue will remain operational, 32Red Poker has closed its virtual doors. Launched over eighteen years ago, 32Red Poker is one of the longest-standing, veteran online poker sites whose Bad Beat Jackpot had been decommissioned before the 19th of May.

Five Party Jackpots at 32Red Poker Terminated

While the poker site’s Bad Beat Jackpot had been terminated several days ago, its Five Party Jackpots was terminated back on the 18th of May. All excess funds and unused deposits made were returned to players while some of Five Party Jackpots unused funds were invested into an upcoming freeroll tournament’s growing prize pool.

Kindred Group’s official e-mail notifying 32Red Poker players that the domain will be terminated on the 19th of May when the Microgaming Poker Network closes also shared some more details about this unfortunate decision. All registered players were notified that they can log into their 32Red Poker accounts as well as access payment options, and of course, play hundreds of casino games at 32Red.com as usual.

Kindred Group has invested around $213 million back in February of 2017 to acquire the prominent 32Red brand. While the brand’s poker site is closed, Kindred Group advises its customers to pay a visit to its the United Kingdom and Gibraltar licensed Unibet.com for awesome online poker, sports betting and casino gaming activities. Following the closure of the Microgaming Poker Network, many similar brands that were members of the MPN including Bet365.com, WilliamHill.com, GrosvenorPoker.com, and Betfair.com became members of the iconic iPoker Network which is owned and operated by Playtech.

However, Unibet has to consider the well-being and health of its players, customers, employees, and everyone else involved in any way and make it the biggest priority to stay safe and protected considering the latest travel restrictions as well as related difficulties of planning such trips during these times of uncertainty.
